A year ago around this time I was a mildly terrified grad student. Now I’m a mildly terrified MFA-holder. Diploma and everything.
Things have moved along apace. If you sneak over to Publications and Such you’ll find a new entry: my first successful Kickstarter project! A couple friends and I put together a chapbook project and it was funded beyond my imagining. We’re in the process of completing and shipping out all the orders, just about three dozen backers’ worth. That doesn’t seem like much to some people, but it’s enough for me and a project that is mostly a proof of concept. (The concept is “Will people buy my words?” and the proof is “Yes.”) I’ll post a couple pictures of it when all of ’em arrive here for me to distribute.
Beyond that, I’m in a bit of a weird place. I’m trying to decide if I want to pursue a PhD or continue my work as a side hustle to… whatever straight job I eventually land. Still applying to effectively all the things. Adjunct teaching, retail drudgery, internet content scrubbing, all sorts of stuff. All the while I’m trying to re-integrate with my social circle, write, attend readings by my peers, pop into the occasional open mic, and submitting my words all over.
So, if you’re new, thanks for stopping by. If you’ve been here before, thanks for stopping by again. I hope you find some stuff you like in either case. Here’s to another year.
